Obtaining Links For Your Website

One of the most difficult tasks, having developed your website is to promote it on the search engines and achieve first page rankings. This is after all where we, as web site owners want to be, especially if you are selling products or promoting your services. Anything after the third page is generally useless for attracting visitors and potential customers. So how can you achieve this first page ranking on the major search engines? I will assume that you have good content and update this at least on a weekly basis as this attracts the search engine spiders to regularly visit your site.

However content alone will not see you leap through the rankings. What will encourage this movement on all the search engines are backward links. You will have undoubtedly read of the many ways of getting links to your website, from reciprocal links to one way links, and that the latest information out of Google suggests that buying links may result in a penalty and in being demoted in the rankings. So how do you, as a busy person running your own business and attempting to promote your own website do it? You could as people suggest e-mail a variety of webmasters whose sites are related to yours asking them to link to you.

This is very time consuming and yields little result. Reciprocal linking is easier but still time consuming and the links seem to be of little value now so again the time spent on this may not be a useful and productive way of using your time. Directories are again relatively easy if time consuming and many of them now require a payment for a link in their directory. If you are planning on registering with as many directories as possible then this can ultimately turn out to be an expensive enterprise.

This is OK if you have a big budget but most of us work on very tight budgets. It is also being suggested that the value of directory links is being downgraded so again it may not be the most valuable use of your time. That leaves one avenue, that of writing and publishing articles. You are presumably an expert in your field so writing about different aspects related to your website should not be difficult. The very first article is difficult and takes up a lot of time but subsequent ones become easier and easier to write.

You will surprise yourself as to what you can actually write about. How valuable these articles are I can only relate from my own experience. Three months ago I started writing articles and have averaged ten per month ever since.

When I first started my web site had 12 links registered on Google, 36 on MSN, 8 on Yahoo and none on Teoma and was languishing on pages seven and eight. Three months down the line and 30 articles later the site is on the first page of these three search engines for at least six of my keywords and the links have increased as follows; Google 54, Yahoo 616, MSN 2056, and Teoma 606. When these links are investigated over 90% of them are from these articles which have been picked up by ezines, weblogs and used as content on other peoples sites. It is a constant source of surprise and enjoyment looking to see where they end up!

Getting excellent link backs to your website is not the only benefit you get from the articles because they also encourage visitors to your site, and every visitor is a potential customer.

Alternative Marketing Strategies

Marketing online has become fiercely competitive. Marketers are attempting to unravel and decipher online marketing to succeed. Some argue that there should not be a distinction between traditional (off-line) marketing and online marketing. Others feel that concepts applied to mail order work well on the web, while still others argue that online marketing is a breed of its own and what works in one arena may not work in another. While some standard practices like "above" the fold, hold true in both print and online copy, it is rare that you see the printed type face on the web the same as in printed advertisements. Regardless there are traditional forms of advertising that are viable and make sense to use on the web but many marketers do not.

These undervalued marketing opportunities are not the end-all be-all but are great supplemental channels, that compliment strong online marketing campaigns.

Buyers Guides

Many print magazines offer free listings in buyers guides. Buyers guides typically have a long shelf life and are viewed as a product resource, meaning it is one of the first places consumers look when wanting to purchase an item. Often magazines will include product reviews or sponsored placement in a buyers guide. Typically the standard listing is free, but optionally vendors can increase their exposure by adding listings in additional categories for a nominal fee. Regardless the free listings are a great value and worth pursuing.

Product Reviews

The impartial overview from a credible source can spark product interest. A third party independent review of your product or service is seen as a vote of confidence. Invite publishers or even bloggers to review your product or service.

When requesting a review, it is proper net etiquette to always provide the reviewer an evaluation product free of charge. After the review, be sure to thank the reviewer and if appropriate, link to the completed review.

Forums/Volunteering in Communities

Offering your time and expertise will establish expertise and knowledge in a specific industry. Participants who participate in forums have a genuine interest and are a great target audience. Posting helpful information rather than blatant product advertisements will enhance an image.

Article Syndication

Writing quality informative and educational articles will also establish expertise. Articles also educate users about related product or service. Generally educated users require less technical help and are an easier sale because they understand how the people or service will help them.

RSS Feeds

Provide content in an RSS feed. While RSS is becoming very popular there are still a number of industries and sectors where very little content is available via RSS feeds. Placing quality content in an RSS feed and being "early to market" will help your company shine.

When small businesses compete with big businesses there are a number of areas in which they can compete effectively. As more businesses turn to the web as an advertising model, it is important that marketers and businesses define themselves by giving themselves every opportunity to be found. Utilizing undervalued marketing opportunities will separate online successes from failures.

Do Not Let The Wrong Google Adword Keywords Take You Broke During The Holidays

Sure, you’re looking to get as much bang for your buck from the holiday PPC traffic as possible, and who could blame you? Just make sure that the "bang" you hear is that of the cash register drawer slamming shut, and not your hand slamming against your forehead because of all the money you wasted on ineffective keywords. Holiday shoppers will click on anything that even remotely looks interesting without necessarily having any intent of buying once they get to the site. This means if you have hot Holiday keywords, but your sales copy doesn’t convert well, you could end up going broke depending upon the cost per click of your holiday key words. That’s why it is so important to hone your keywords so they match exactly what it is you are selling.

Let’s say that you sell holiday gift baskets that contain bath oils and lotions. If you choose "holiday gift baskets", you would get hammered by every person who is looking for a fruit basket, sausage and cheese basket, and any other kind of gift basket you can imagine. Unless your price point is so good, and your sales copy is so compelling that it can convince Aunt Agnes that Uncle Bernie would rather have a basket full of lotions instead of deer meat jerky, then you have a problem and your PPC costs are going to be through the roof. Here’s a good strategy to follow during the holidays when PPC traffic goes through the roof. Watch your click-through and sales conversion rates carefully. for each keyword.

If you are getting a high number of clicks, and a low number of sales, drop that keyword. Remember, the goal here is to make a lot of sales, not draw a lot of wasted traffic. Choose keywords which reflect the needs of the holiday shopper. If you are currently advertising "jewelery" try "jewelry gifts" or "teen gift ideas" if you sell products for that age group. The idea is to associate your product with the traditional gift-giving holidays. If you have added seasonal items to your product line then remember to update your campaigns to include these new products. If you have dropped inventory, or are out of stock, remember to pause those campaigns. It doesn’t make any sense to pay for traffic if you can’t deliver the product. The most best tip of all is to find competitive "niche" keyword phrases that have a high demand and low competition.

With some diligence you should be able to uncover keywords which are capable of generating good traffic but, because the "big boys" haven’t discovered them, the bid prices are still affordable. The best way to accomplish this is to work down your list of current keywords, find synonyms, and then determine how much traffic each of these words generate. It may be a lot of work, but, with a little bit of luck, it will lower your PPC costs and drive better targeted holiday traffic to your site. If it’s too close to the holiday season, and you don’t have time for the "lot of work" and the "little bit of luck" method, then you should consider getting your hands on a copy of Keyword Locator, the amazing PPC Keyword mining software program that eliminates both the hard work as well as the need for luck. In fact, it pays for itself the first time you use it.

The Value of Web Directories

Web directories are an important component to search engine positioning. Directories come in all shapes and sizes, some are generic, while others are highly specialized. Directories, are defined as categorized topics or collections of information organized into a tree like structure where categories are used to define each groups association.

Large directories like Yahoo tend to have general themes and may charge for listings. While smaller niche directories  offer free listings and profit from advertising revenue or pay per click models like Google AdSense.

Being listed in a directory not only brings in targeted traffic, it provides a one-way link from a website with similar content. Directories are generally highly ranked in search engines, and are considered well respected resources, two traits that are desirable in link partners.

While smaller directories that focus on a specific niche might generate less traffic, the quality of the traffic from a niche site is usually highly targeted and will be superior to that generated from general search engines.

If you are selling fire alarms, traffic from yahoo will be less qualified than traffic from Alarm Tools, http://www.alarm-tools.net . Most visitors to Alarm Tools will have a genuine interest in alarms and alerting systems. The nature of highly specialized directories result in visitors who have a serious interest in the directories theme, or a at the very least an interest in a theme related to the directory.

As a result, web publishers need to make a conscience effort not to ignore the value of directory listings. Regardless of their size, a related niche directory listing can be extremely valuable.

Many directories offer sponsorship opportunities. Vendors can optionally purchase sponsorship to increased their exposure with a bold listing or top category listings.

Determining a Directories Value

It is difficult to assess the value of directory listing, as there is an obvious advantage to a listing of a closely related theme directory that is difficult to measure and quantify. In general, webmasters can use common web guidelines to determine the popularity of a directory and assess the directory link’s value.

To assess the value of a web directory, consider the PageRank of the webpage where the link placement of your site will occur. The PageRank is indicative of how important Google may find a specific page. Another reliable third party measuring tool is Alexa. The Alexa ranking provides insight into how popular a website is. In general, a link from a web page containing a PageRank of 5 or higher is considered very good. A link from a site in Alexa’s top 100,000 is also generally very desirable.

Compare the following two directories’ Monitoring Tools http://www.monitoring-tools.net and RSS Specifications http://www.rss-specifications.com . Monitoring Tools’ main page has a PageRank of 5 but most internal pages that contain links have low page ranks and the overall Alexa ranking of the site is over 650,000. While RSS Specification’s claims a main Google PageRank of 6 and subpages all contain a minimum of a 5 for PageRank, the overall site is ranked 32,000. Clearly if you are in the syndication business, RSS Specification’s would be a very desirable link partner, while you would have to weigh the cost benefit and position of a link from Monitoring Tools.

To determine a sites PageRank without downloading the Google Toolbar, use the following online tool from RustyBrick http://www.rustybrick.com/pagerank-prediction.php . A website’s Alexa ranking can be found by entering the URL into Alexa http://www.alexa.com .

It is recommended that PageRank and Alexa ranking be only used as a guide when determining a directories reputation. It is important not to get too caught up in either Google PageRank or Alexa Ranking as webmasters can use "tricks" to artificially inflate their numbers.

The bottom line, links from directories that are small but niche, can provide quality web traffic.

Internet Marketing and Getting Your Site Noticed

You may have created the best Web site in the world, but unfortunately it will not do your home based business any good if no one sees it. Therefore, knowing how to market your site and getting your site noticed is incredibly important to the success of your home based business and to make money online. Obviously, marketing your web site is one of the most important activities you can spend your time on.

Fortunately, getting your site noticed does not have to be expensive so marketing on a tight budget does not prevent you from getting quality exposure. The first thing you will want to do is pack your Web page full of keywords that people might use when searching for information contained in your site. The more keywords you have, or keyword phrases someone might use, the more often your site will be returned as a result for the person searching.

The keywords should appear multiple times each on your web page and need to be context relevant, that is the keywords should be in your page title, article titles, section titles, paragraphs, links, etc. You want to be in the top 5 results posted as often as possible, so continually searching for keywords and keyword phrases and refining your web site will direct more traffic to your online home base business.

Also, once you have packed your page full of useful information and as many keywords as you and your thesaurus can think of, you will want to upload your URL to various search engines like Yahoo, Google, Excite, Alta Vista, and any specialized search engines that focus on your particular business or service. By including more keywords on your web site, when the search engines are searching for sites pertaining to the keywords entered in the search engine, your page will be listed as a higher result than others.

This is very important because people generally check the first few web sites results and skip the others if they find the information they were looking. However, make sure the information you provide on your site is useful and you dont just have a string of keywords to attract people to your page. If you have useful information about a product or service, people will look around. If all you have is a bunch of keywords and nothing that actually pertains to what the individual is looking for, they will leave and never come back.

So, be alert to what you are offering potential customers and attentive to the way you bring them to your page. If you have done all of the above, and are still interested in more traffic, then consider marketing your site on other related or non related sites by banners and the like.

This is a way of letting individuals know about your product that might not be aware of it to even search for it. By advertising in this way you are reaching a sector of individuals who want and need your product, but were never aware of it. There are multiple ways to market and of getting your web site noticed, just make sure you do it in a responsible way. Internet users are fed up with pop up ads, fly-ins, fly-overs, exit pages, spam e-mail and other unsolicited information.

For instance, many people now have programs that block pop up ads, which means you are not even marketing. Finally, you dont want to anger potential customers or have them close off their mind to your product, so be creative when you are marketing, aggressive and always respectful of current and future clients.

Vol.64 – Facebook and Twitter vs. LinkedIn and Google+ in Japan

Facebook and Twitter have started to become popular among early adaptors in Japan in the last one or two years but LinkedIn has not and Google Plus (Google+) is not yet used even among IT experts even if they have created their account.

In this article, the author would like to outline the popularity of the four social media in Japan.

1. How are the four social media popular in Japan?

Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn status has been explained in the author’s articles from Vol.45 – 2011 Trend of Social Media: Worldwide and Japan (Part 1) throughout Vol.47 – 2011 Trend of Social Media: Worldwide and Japan (Part 3) when the author summarized the social media situation in Japan to conclude 2010 and predicted the trend for 2011, which turned out to be quite true as in Vol.48 – 2011 Japan’s First Year of Social Media / SNS, which was based on a survey result about social media in Japan executed by a leading Japanese media.

In short, local leading SNS called Mixi and local blog called Ameba had been dominating Japan until the recent popularization of Twitter and Facebook. LinkedIn remains unpopular among the majority of the Japanese, so is Google Plus (Google+) which is still unpopular even among majority of online marketers.

2. How is Twitter?

Twitter was the first global social media that became hot in the summer of 2010, when it was featured in a special article in a leading Japanese business magazine together with introduction of applications and celebrities already using Twitter. Together with the localization (Japanese version) that was already available and the ease of use, Twitter immediately became hot among early adaptors including many popular politicians and companies/organizations as well as general public.

There were some online marketers who had been giving seminars about leveraging Twitter but few seemed to blog and/or write a book about it.

3. How is Facebook?

Facebook had mostly been used by bilingual Japanese mostly to be connected with friends outside Japan but Facebook outbreak came in January 2011 when the movie “Social Networking” started in Japan and Facebook was featured in mass media. This was when the author was convinced that “2011 will be the first year of SNS in Japan”.

Unlike Twitter, Facebook was immediately used by a few innovative companies in their marketing, which was featured in series of online articles of a leading Japanese business media. This together with the movie was the advantage the Facebook had over Twitter.

Now there are some online Japanese marketers who constantly blog and/or wrote a book about how to leverage Facebook in marketing. Also, people who first started using Twitter (online marketers in particular) tend to prefer Facebook

4. How about LinkedIn?

Japanese people living in Japan who are on LinkedIn are mostly in HR/recruiting and IT industry and few are truly active, such as proactively networking, joining group discussions and leveraging Q&A function.

This might attribute to the fact that online community was not really considered to be a platform for business networking, recruiting/job hunting and so forth in Japan. Such perception is still minor in Japan although there is a sign that the situation might change in the future, as mentioned in the author’s previous article Social Recruiting: Cases and Future of Recruiting in Japan published in Article Content King .

Having said that, the fact that Japanese version has not been available is also a primary reason for LinkedIn not being popular in Japan. There was a news that Japanese version is to be rolled out this June but the roll out seems to be behind their original schedule.

5. How about Google Plus (Google+)?

Google+ is still very new yet grown rapidly in western countries (the U.S. in particular); however, it is still mostly unknown in Japan. It was only in August that the author found one of the first online article posted by a leading Japanese media saying how it is growing dramatically in English speaking countries and its benefits that encompass benefits of Facebook and Twitter.

The author, although had the account and was invited from her non-Japanese Facebook friend soon after Google+ invitation was available in July, started to really use Google+ in August to immediately understand that even few Japanese IT experts in Japan are using and active on Google+ and it is only the real innovators that are posting updates and comments. In fact, the author was extremely surprised that a online friend in IT industry (blogging in Japanese about Internet and social media) sent her a message on Twitter as a reply to her tweet saying about her Google+ blog article that he has created an Google+ account but has not yet understood the merits of Google+.

This is why currently the author mainly uses Google+ to obtain up-to-date information about social media and Internet marketing information; therefore, includes in her circles basically English speaking influencers to follow and to friend with people strong in Internet marketing and technology, and not networking with Japanese people.

6. The author’s final thoughts

Facebook and Twitter that was successful in gaining popularity attributing to strategic use of media is likely to strengthen its popularity especially Facebook, which would contribute to making 2011 truly the first era of SNS/social media in Japan.

The author believes in the potential of LinkedIn and Google+, which is why she has been writing some blog posts about LinkedIn and Google+ for her Japanese blog. The fact that social media has been becoming popular in Japan is a positive factor for sure. If they are strategically rolled out in Japan meeting local needs, marketed and promoted by an effective evangelist, they would surely be used by more Japanese people in Japan.

Twitter and Facebook have gained popularity attributing to how they were introduce by mass media and so forth 2011 is said to be the first era of SNS/social media in Japan, but LinkedIn and Google Plus (Google+) remains unpopular in Japan. Twitter and Facebook popularity is likely to remain strong. Regarding LinkedIn and Google+, if strategically rolled out meeting Japan local needs, and marketed and promoted by an effective evangelist, it is quite possible that they would be used by more Japanese people in Japan.

Keys to Successful Online Marketing

With ever changing business tools the advertising and marketing tools and techniques have also changed from the most primitive methods to the modern marketing like online advertising and marketing.

You can hardly find anyone using those primitive marketing techniques in the present day business. While shifting from the primitive marketing to the online marketing almost everything from the very basic tools to the advanced tools has been replaced by the most modern digital tools and latest techniques.

Now the question is how a marketing campaign can be successful where everyone including your potential competitors is using the same latest techniques and tools for their marketing campaign. This is a big challenge for a marketing campaign to stand unique from its parallel competing campaigns in the view of target audience.

Now here are some key ideas that can help understand how a campaign can stand alone in the eyes of a target user.

The use of banners can be made to boost up the output of the online marketing campaign if the banners are designed keeping in view the taste of the target class. These banners can be put on any website but the best place to put these banners is a website that is related in any aspect to the product or the service you are marketing. The banners must be not be so much heavy that they take pretty time to load, instead they should be designed not to take more time to load. Online Marketing Agency, Online Marketing !!! 360 Creative Inc. the art of marketing & the science of creativity

The previous visiting record of specific user can be put to use by analyzing it to predict the interests of that specific user thus making it sure that the message that goes to this user is in accordance with his likes and dislikes or else he will not pay any attention thus the resources used in marketing go in vain.

The marketing campaign can be much more successful if the user comes to visit your page by him. To make him visit your page instead of putting your banners on other pages that he visits, you will have to make your page a place from where the visitor can get benefits. This can be done in the form of informative stuff on your page, so when the visitor finds your page informative or beneficial he develops an attachment your brand or company name. To make your page such informative is part of a successful marketing campaign.

We all know the power of social networks. The social sites and the public forums are the best places to put the informative stuff about your product or services. For example creating a page with name of your brand or product and regularly updating it with informative and interesting stuff will yield more output with a comparatively less input. The regular participation on public forums will also yield good results.

A team of experts in customer behavior analysis, psychologists, designers combined with creative ideas can prove to be a successful marketing depending on the commitment of your team with their work and it’s up to you to find such a team and then give them the task of marketing your product online.

10 Amazing And Life Changing Benefits Of A Home-based Business

We tend to get attracted to jobs that are more convenient and yet offer a good return for the effort put in. The boom in the IT sector and the revolution caused by the internet has led to more people taking about home-based businesses. Entrepreneurs are fascinated by the concept of home-based businesses and the benefits they provide to the proprietor and employees in the long run.

Listed here are 10 benefits of a home based business to help you understand the reason for its rising popularity:

1. Time Saving- The time you spend traveling to your workplace and back home is unproductive time. You do practically nothing! The same time can be utilized in a better way if you opt for a business at home.

2. Independence- You don’t have to follow an official dress code, work timings, and most importantly, you don’t have to deal with a boss! You can even leave work if you are not well, which is rarely possible in the typical office environment.

3. Lower risk- When you choose a home-based business, you need very little monetary investment in the business, as compared to the traditional brick-and-mortar business. Thus, there is lesser risk involved.

4. Financial benefits- You can also save a lot of money in case of a home-based business, as you don’t have to pay additional money for rent of premises, cost of maintenance, petty stationery, and other such overheads. Instead, this money can be invested elsewhere to reap more benefits.

5. Work from any place you like- Be it your bed, your study table, the terrace, the balcony, or even the garden, working from the comfort of your own home offers you the flexibility to work from any place you want to instead of sitting for long hours on the same chair in your office.

6. More time with family- Running a business from home allows you to build stronger relations with your family members. Husbands/wives can help each other with the housework and also the business, if required.
