AdSense is a double-edged sword; sure, it can earn you money but it can also be a distraction. Picture this:

You have a new website and you’ve been accepted by AdSense so you rush off to generate the code and install it on your site. Perfect, you think, the money will soon come rolling in. WRONG! It won’t and this is why.

Tip #1 AdSense don’t disclose which niches have the best Click Through Ratio (CTR). (By the way CTR is clicks divided by page views so if you have 10 clicks from 100 page views, your CTR is 10% – that’s actually extremely high, so is just an example.)

Tip #2 If you have a new website, you probably don’t get more than 10 visitors a day which equates to 30 per month. Even if your CTR is 10%, you have had 3 clicks and unless you’re in a very high value niche, you have just earned around $0.30

Tip #3 The average CTR is probably between 0.5 and 2%, if you’re lucky, so look at this another way, you didn’t earn anything like $0.30 cents in the month.

Tip #4 Don’t let AdSense distract you! I remember when I first started, I couldn’t wait to look at my AdSense account to see how much I was earning and when I discovered it was virtually nothing, I thought that maybe the ad positions or colours or content were wrong, so I moved them and changed them but the income didn’t get any bigger because I didn’t have the traffic and I was wasting time that I could have used to create content.

Tip #5 Did I mention content? Well I will now because it’s the life-blood of a website, particularly one that aspires to earn with AdSense. Unique, informative content is paramount.

Tip #6 Don’t expect to make money from a news or review site which just regurgitates what others have already reported. You won’t get the traffic because the big boys who originated the content will have already got the audience.

Tip #7 Don’t write a personal blog because nobody cares and you won’t get traffic except maybe from your friends. Celebrities can get away with it because people are interested in the minutiae of their lives but AdSense ads won’t be focused if you use only personal content.

Tip #8 If you want to suddenly attract traffic, you need a hook. Make videos using a funny voice or with your dog doing tricks or your cat performing for the camera – that will make people watch your videos and visit your site.

Tip #9 Create your website and populate it with great content before you ever install AdSense; you will already have traffic and you won’t be distracted from your main purpose.

Tip #10 Just work at it. Create content regularly which helps people and which they want to read; that’s the only way you’ll attract traffic to your site and revenue from AdSense

So, I hope these AdSense tips will help you to focus on your content and forget those measly few cents for the time being.

Internet marketing is solely driven by SEO or search engine optimization. SEO refers to the process of gaining an impressive rank in search engine listings. This is very important as it decides the fate of a business. If a website is not SEO-friendly, it cannot expect to rule the online world and achieve what it has set out to. For this reason, it is imperative to follow the cardinal rules of search engine optimization so that you can ensure maximum traffic for your website and increase your profit prospects.

1. A website should be designed keeping the SEO factor in mind. This means the website should be rich in text. Search engines always look for content in a site, not intricate designs or fancy graphics. A website containing adequate text guarantees high visibility in search engine listings.

2. While including title tags on your website, do not restrict it to only the home page. Rather, every page of the site should boast of a title tag. Also, relevant keywords should be used in the title tags in each page depending on what the specific page is all about.

3. Each page of your website should be optimized for a particular keyword or key phrase and those placed appropriately in the content and heading tags. Special attention has to be given to ascertain the content does not become over-stuffed with keywords. You can also italicize or bold the keywords since search engines instantly recognize such texts.

4. The website content has to be updated from time to time in order to stay afloat in the game of internet marketing. It should be highly relevant and keywords should be used very wisely. This is one of the most basic rules of SEO.

5. There are many people who become obsessed with the Page Rank system of Google thinking it to be directly related to the performance of a website. However, you should remember that well-written content and good SEO are the primary factors that contribute to the success of a website. A website with an impressive PR but poor content and SEO cannot survive for long.

6. Use of frames, JavaScript and flash should be avoided unless it is absolutely imperative. This is because they are not SEO friendly and can affect your ranking significantly.

7. There should be alt tags for all graphics and images used on the website. Relevant keywords ought to be used in the alt tags.

8. The site’s internal architecture deserves special attention. All internal pages of your website should be linked back to the sitemap and homepage. A well-formed internal linking structure and good sitemap can ensure all pages of a website being indexed by a search engine.

9. It is good to manually submit a website for inclusion in search engine but indexing can take a lot of time in such a case. That is why you should search for sites that permit ‘Do Follow’ links and boast of a forum or blog which is regularly updated and is reasonably popular. It should be checked whether the blog permits links in signatures, posts or profiles. The main keyword should be used as the anchor text. This will increase your site’s chance of getting indexed.

10. Quality back links have to be built up to your site for effective SEO. One-way links are the strongest ones in this regard. You can ask site owners to put your link on their websites, include your site in vital directories and so on.

A website operator and owner must have the good sense to include articles in his or her marketing campaigns. Articles have been known to be the driving force in driving traffic to a website and with a huge number in traffic flow there are more profits and more potential for other income generating schemes as well.

Writing an article doesn’t just mean putting down thoughts into words then typing and writing it. You have to capture the interest of your readers and get them to keep on reading. To send your message across you have to get the attention of the reader and have a firm grasp of their interest and pique their curiosity.

Don’t Confuse the reason to promote the articles with the reason to write them – In article writing, there are three key benefits why you are promoting them; branding, lead generation and promotion, which are all part of your optimization efforts. But there is only one reason why you write an article, and that is to inform your audience. If the article is not focused on this primary and most important purpose, it will fail to achieve the three promotion benefits because no one will be interested in reading them.

An article must always be centred on the keywords and keyword phrases. As each website visitor goes to a site, there are those who are not just merely browsing but actually looking for a specific something. When this happens, a searcher usually goes to a search engine and types in the keywords they are looking for it could be anything they want so mention keywords at strategic places. Just be sure not to overdo them Start out with a plan and see to it that your article will serve the function that you intended it to have.

Keep a diary or a journal with you always. Ideas can be triggered by anything you may hear, see, or smell. Your senses are your radar in finding great ideas. Write all of them into a journal and keep it with you for future reference. You may also write down anything that you have read or heard, someone’s ideas could be used to develop your own ideas and this is not stealing. Remember that ideas and creativity can come from anywhere; it’s the development of the idea that makes it unique

Articles must be able to entertain people as well as provide good information and help for their needs. Articles should be written well with correct spelling and good grammar. If you want people to trust you, make your work good and well thought out. People respond well to figures, facts and statistics. Try to get great information and as many facts as you can. A good and well written article will boost your reputation as an expert in your chosen field or topic. As more people believe in you. They will be able to trust you and your products.

Here are some article headlines:
Ask a question
Ask Why
How to
Numbered list
Best and worst of

A little resource box with a brief description of your site and you should always be placed right after your articles that you have submitted. If people like your articles, they will most likely click on the link directing them to your site.

If a person visits your website and leaves, chances are that he or she will not come back, especially if there are no compelling reasons to do so. After all, we all behave rather impulsively on the Internet, so much so that we can easily forget where we were 10 web pages ago.

But the bottom line is that your visitor may not come back to your website again. If 1,000 visitors visit your website, leave and never come back again, you can imagine the amount of potential revenue lost, simply because they do not come back. You could have converted a fraction of the visitors into your customers.

Some may say that creating unique content can keep some of the visitors coming back, but very often, unique content is not the solution. The real, long-term solution lies in converting your visitors into subscribers of your mailing list.

Before your visitor leaves your website, you want to convert him or her into your subscriber via a simple opt-in to your mailing list. You do this by asking for your visitor’s name and email address through your opt-in form.

And if your visitor signs up to be on your mailing list, you can still follow up with him via email. You can get your subscriber to consider your offer, or endorse another offer to him or her.

All in all, you want to convert as many visitors into subscribers as possible and obtain the potential revenue you rightfully deserve – the easy, wise way.

Some Ways to Get Visitors
Ad Swap – Generally, you trade advertisements with other eZine publishers, preferably of the same mailing list size or bigger. You broadcast the eZine publisher’s advertisement to your mailing list while the eZine publisher endorses your ad to his list.

Articles – Quite simply, you write and submit your articles on your topic of expertise or business nature to popular article directories where eZine publishers and readers are looking for the information you provide.

Ezine ads -the marketer would be wiser if he or she uses eZine advertising to build his or her mailing list. It makes sense, anyway. Since some eZines display more than one sponsored advertisement, you can grab the subscriber’s attention by giving a free or risk-free product or offer through your ad.

Free viral report – One of the few success factors in viral marketing of your free report is quality. If your readers find your information worth sharing, and you encourage them to do so by giving them the right to give your report away for free, you will be able to have your name, status and links within the report passed around without any effort on your part – simply because others are willing to do so for you!

Squeeze page or lead capture page – Also known as the “name squeeze page” or “lead capture page”, you can build your mailing list by funnelling all of your would-be subscribers through the creation of a landing page. Not only do you do the work just once, your traffic driving efforts can be focused onto just one effective method.

Creating a successful landing page
Offer a freebie in exchange for your visitor’s email address. I very much endorse this method of building your mailing list. You can offer a special report or a sample of your paid product to your visitor in exchange for their details such as name and email address.

The landing page must be written professionally. When writing your page, treat it as if you are writing a sales letter. While you are not necessarily making a hard sale or try to get someone to buy your product upfront, being able to entice your visitors to give their details to you is just as important as selling.

Other than your opt-in form and perhaps important disclaimers and terms, there shouldn’t be any other links on your landing page.

Rub in the benefits of the freebie you are offering more than a mere subscription to your newsletter. You should focus most of the attention of the letter on encouraging your prospective visitor to download your free offer. Later, you gently remind your prospect that he or she has nothing to pay but just merely subscribe to your newsletter in exchange for the freebie.

As a final reminder and conclusion, in order to build trust, you can include your hand-written signature or a photo of yourself explaining where you are coming from and how you can help your visitor through your free report on offer.

I live in Milngavie, a village 7 miles north of Glasgow, Scotland and have been in the training industry since 1966 helping people, from all walks-of-life achieve their ambitions, their goals, to have positive attitudes, to enhanced their motivation and reach their true potential.
Marketing a website doesnt have to be terribly difficult. Its pretty much just a matter of knowing what and how to do it, and then possessing the proper skills and time to implement it. Aggressive and effective internet marketing not only builds your companys web presence, it also enables you to become involved with potential customers in new and exciting ways. There is a clear and direct correlation between your marketing budget and revenue growth. The reason why a user visits your website is because they are after information. Whether they are seeking the opinion of a professional, a product, service or review, people are looking for information and answers to questions. Just keep answering the question "Whats in it for me?" (WIIFM), as this is the only question that matters to the customer. Text content equals importance on the Internet. You should only have quality, informative content that is easy to understand so visitors can share your message. The most important rule a website must adhere to, is to create an abundance of focused, original content.

The argument still goes on about image ads vs text ads on AdSense. As a publisher, you have the choice of either or both but which performs the best and which works best for the advertisers?

Advertisers often find that graphic advertisements stimulate interest but less often end up in a sale whereas text adverts are less visible but when they are clicked more often convert to a sale. Thus, in the image ads vs text ads war, it seems that image ads are better for the publisher because they attract more clicks and therefore more income, but that text ads work more effectively for the advertiser because they result in more sales.

However, there is a third point of view to be considered; that of the surfer or website visitor. Text advertisements are less intrusive than flashy banners but that surely means that they’re less noticeable. On the other hand, banner advertising is so prevalent these days that the average surfer tunes out the intrusion and continues to peruse the website content.

Some graphic adverts do not make it immediately obvious what they’re advertising and as most people can’t be bothered to work out what an ad is for, they are unlikely to attract clicks, whereas text adverts, being keyword targeted, make their purpose quite clear.

Because text advertisements are not so intrusive there is a danger that they won’t be noticed at all. However, if they are properly targeted to the page content, they will usually contain something to attract the surfer to click through to get more information about their search subject.

From the point of view of the publisher, graphic advertising paid per impression rather than per click is obviously a good deal and it can work well for an advertiser seeking to publicise their brand rather than a specific product.

In terms of choice, in the image ads vs text ads competition, text adverts offer far more. For example, a 300 x 250 ad block will contain just one image but at least three textual advertisements. If one were to put three image ads side by side, the effect would be too dazzling for the surfer.

While Google are very strict about regulating the use of trademark names such as "iPod" in text adverts, it’s much harder to prevent them appearing in images.

For the advertiser, it’s much cheaper to produce a text advertisement, particularly if they don’t have in house graphic designers. Equally, if their text advertisements are well crafted, advertisers will only pay for clicks from visitors who are genuine potential buyers.

Speaking as a publisher, having studied the results of comparing image ads vs text ads, I am gradually changing the AdSense on most of my sites to text. I have found that text ads are far more likely to relevant to the content of my sites and therefore of more interest to my visitors. Relevance equals income, as far as I’m concerned.
