SEO for AdSense – A Guide for Newbies
Using Google’s AdSense on your website pages won’t earn you extra cash unless you have enough visitors to click on the ads, so obviously you need to generate extra traffic.
How do you do that? Basically, you need to use SEO for AdSense. That’s search engine optimisation which is a way to make your website more attractive to search engines so that they rank your site highly for certain keywords and send you more visitors. Here are some tips as to how to do that.
Tip #1. Keep your source code simple so that the search engines and the AdSense ads know exactly what your page is about and can easily extract keywords. Try not to use too many hyperlinks unless they are your keywords.
Tip #2. Make sure that each of your pages targets just one topic. Don’t jump between topics or your AdSense adverts may not fit with the content of your page and neither will your pages won’t be properly indexed.
Tip #3. Invest in a good keyword research tool which will not only give you the number of searches, but the number of competing pages and a strength of competition calculation so that you know which keywords are worth targeting.
Tip #4. Do your keyword research, decide which keywords you want to target on the page and make sure that those keywords appear in the title, the page url, the first paragraph, maybe a couple of times in the middle and in the final paragraph. Don’t exceed more than one or two percent of the page content or it won’t read correctly to your visitors.
Tip #5. Make sure that the content of your pages is original, interesting and informative. Answer questions and give tips. Hang out in forums to find out what people are interested in or have a problem with.
Tip #6. Check your ranking in Google for your chosen keywords, from time to time. If your page doesn’t appear near the top then try rewriting your title and the first and final paragraphs. Sometimes just changing a couple of words will make all the different.
SEO for AdSense is quite complicated and there are many ways of tweaking the content of your site to make the very best of it but if you follow these basic tips, you’ll be well on the way to increasing your ranking, your traffic and the number of clicks to your AdSense advertisements.

Two Surefire Ways To Maximize Your Adsense Earnings
Most webmasters know that Adsense is a valuable source of additional advertising income. That is why most of them use it to monetize there websites using after high paying keywords.
Webmasters have with them the lists that tells what the keywords are and have already used various methods of identifying them. And yet, after putting up these supposed-to-be high paying keywords into their pages, the money they expected to come rolling in is not really coming in.
What is it that they are doing wrong?
Having the pages is with the proper keywords is one thing. But driving visitors to those pages is another matter and often the factor that is lacking.
The thing is, to get visitors to your high paying keyword pages, you need to optimize your site navigation.
Hold it for a moment and think about how visitors are using your website. After a visitor has landed on a certain page, they have the tendency to click on another page that appear to be interesting. They go there because of the other links that appears on the initial page. This is site navigation. It is all about enabling visitors to move about your site. And one way of maximizing your Adsense earnings.
Grab visitor’s attention with cleverly labeled links
A typical website have menu links on each page. The wording on these links is what grabs a visitor’s attention and gets them to click on one of the links that will take them to another page of that website. Links that have "free" or "download" are oftentimes good attention-grabbers.
This navigation logic can also be used to driving traffic to your high paying pages. There are some websites that are getting a lot of traffic from search engines, but have low earnings. The trick is to try and use come cleverly labeled links to get the visitors off that pages and navigate them to the higher earning ones. This is one great way of turning real cheap clicks to real dollars.
Before you begin testing if this same style will work for you and you website, you need to have two things. Something to track and compare and some high earning pages you want to funnel your site traffic to. An option is to select a few of your frequently visited pages. This is ensuring fast result to come by.
Now, the next thing to do is think of ways to get visitors viewing a particular page to try and click on the link that will take them to your high earning pages. Come up with a catchy description for that link. Come up with a catchy and unique description for the link. Think of something that people do not get to see everyday. That will trigger their curiosity enough to try and see what that was all about.
You can also use graphics to grab your readers’ attention. There is no limitation to what you can do to make your link noticeable. If you are after the success of your site, you will do everything it takes just to achieve that goal. Just be creative. As far as many Adsense advertisers are concerned, there are no written and unwritten laws to follow regarding what they write. Just as long as you do not overstep the guidelines of the search engines, then go for it.
Also remember that it is all about location, location and location. Once the perfect attention grabbing description has been achieved, you have to identify the perfect spot on your page to position that descriptive link to your high paying page.
There is useful visiting other websites to see how they are going about maximizing their site navigation. "Hot pages" or "Most read" lists are very common and overly used already. Find the ones that many websites are using and do not try to imitate them.
Use different texts on different pages
Another way of doing it is to try and use different texts on different pages. That way you will see the ones that work and what does not. Try to mix things around also. Put links on top and sometimes on the bottom too. This is how you go about testing which ones get more clicks and which ones are being ignored.
Let the testing begin. Testing and tracking until you find the site navigation style that works best for you site.

New Residents at the Park and a little bit about Adsense
There are some new residents that need to be welcomed into the Blog Park. One is about a City that says it is all about Golden Friendship and the other one is all about the scams and the scamming on the Internet. You may have noticed that I have removed the Adsense code that serves up the Adsense ads and the Google search bar from this site. Google Adsense has removed me from the list of publishers for violations of the TOA. I am not saying they did so unfairly and unjustly. That is not important or even remotely relevant. I am sure that I am not the first one and surely I will not be the last to be removed or as they say, banned. It is no big deal as my adventures into the Adsense Kingdom was a lark, an experiment which although very educational, was very much unprofitable financially and unrewarding psychologically.
The big hype about Adsense Wealth is, as far as I have discovered, mostly hype. It is a big way for others who came before and have learned how difficult it is to make money on Adsense, to make money from newbies who know no better. Hard as it may sound, there is a ring of truth to it as I have experienced first hand the hard sell, and the force-feeding of Adsense into all who would give it the time of day. Well, it is another day and another lesson has been learned.
I am sure there are people who make a lot of money on Adsense but it seems to me that the people who rake in the big bucks have to employ Black Hat methods to do it. And Adsense is so prone to click fraud and all other forms of fraud that Google has to scramble all over the place to prevent click fraud and other forms of fraud that are far worse than a few clicks.
This appears to me very self-evident that Adsense has some really serious flaws which Google needs to address. And I am not talking about Google becoming an even more efficient technological policeman and detective to thwart those that exploit the holes in the Search Egine’s Algorithm. If something can be learned, it is that where there is money to be made, there you will always find people devising ingenous ways to get at that money my means that are not intended to be used.
I am sure that you have heard or seen the catch phrase, “Content is king!” and very often this is used in a sales page where in the same breath it tries to sell you a thingy or other that will defeat that catch phase and render it inutile and vapid and weak by rewording your content and adding a few more keywords to supposedly make your articles more valuable and palatable to the search engines. This is utterly ridiculous but such is the state of affairs which Adsense has created. Feed the robots with nonsense and they will love you. Is this the future of technology? I can remember Shakespeare saying, “it is like a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”.
Google Adsense has problems which are far worse than a few illegal clicks.

Top Paying Adsense Keywords – It Is Not Just About The Keywords…
Google adsense has been a magnificent way for webmasters to increase their revenue because they can turn their traffic into money. The more traffic you have, the more potential you have for earning money.
Many sites on the Internet, including mine, give out information on the top paying adsense keywords. These are the keywords that have been bid on the most on Google Adwords or Miva etc. It must be said though that the figure advertisers are bidding for these keywords is nowhere near what you will receive as a webmaster.
For example, let’s take the keyphrase “Car Insurance”. Advertisers are bidding between $42.53 – $53.95 for this keyphrase. Before you work out roughly how much you could earn, you need to do the following:
1. Make sure that your website contains lots of content surrounding your chosen keyword. Do not put in the keyphrase hundreds of times; just make sure that you have evenly ‘sprinkled’ your phrase in your content. It needs to read well, and it needs to be informative to your visitors.
2. Make sure that your keyphrase is in your main heading
3. Make sure, if you can, that your keyphrase is your subheading. For numbers 2 & 3, you can add other words to your heading and subheading, but just make sure that your phrase is within it.
4. Make sure that if you have any images relating to your keyphrase, that the ‘alt text’ contains that phrase.
Right, now that you have ensured the above, you have increased the chances of earning top money when Google Adsense ads are placed and clicked on your website.
The general rule for working out how much you could expect to earn is to take the average Google Adwords CPC (i.e. – how much they are bidding for your keyphrase of interest), divide it by 2, and then divide that figure by 10.
The amount you get left with is a conservative figure for what you could expect to earn.
For example; the average CPC for car insurance is approximately $48.24.
$48.24 / 2 = $24.12
$24.12 / 10 = $2.41
As I just mentioned, this is an extremely conservative figure, but it is a lot more realistic that you will earn $2.41 when you start advertising for this keyphrase to begin with. It is very likely, as I will explain below, that this figure will increase if your site receives lots of traffic, has a high page ranking, and is therefore reputable to Google.
You must remember that Google knows if your website has just appeared up overnight, and there is no way that the top bidders’ adverts for your chosen keyphrase will be put up on your site. That makes sense though, because if you were an advertiser bidding $50 say for car insurance, you wouldn’t want your highly priced ad to appear on an overnight site, you would much prefer that it appeared on a very popular and reputable site.
Therefore, what you need to bear in mind is that as your site increases in popularity and page ranking, you will gradually get higher priced ads appearing on your site, which means that you will increase your earnings potential.
Many of these websites offering the top paying adsense keywords fail to mention these points, and many webmasters often become confused when they are only earning a few dollars per click instead of $50, which they were led to believe.
I hope this article has helped you understand a little bit more about Google Adsense. There is definitely a lot of money to be earnt from this opportunity, but these things take time and effort. If they didn’t, wouldn’t you be suspicious?

Get motivated to create new AdSense content.
If you’re new to AdSense, getting motivated to write original content can be difficult. Writing content takes time, and it also takes time to get the content advertised and get links into each page. If you still have a day job, it can be tough to make the time.
One way to motivate yourself to create the content and get the links is to calculate how much you are earning per page per year. Multiply that times any number of pages and you will have a good idea of how much money you are missing out on by NOT creating content and getting links.
Let’s take an example. Let’s say that you have 100 pages of content that are earning you $100 a month.
That means that each page is making you, on average, $1 per month, or $12 per year.
$12 per year may not sound like much, but let’s say that you created one unique article every 3 days and got a few links to that article with link exchanges, etc. 365 days in a year means that in one year you will have added and linked about 122 additional pages
of content.
122 pages of content times $12 per year is $1,464 that you are missing out on every year because you are not creating new content.
Now, let’s say that you can write and link one page per day. That’s 365 pages per year, or $4,380 per year.
Of course, if you focus on the high paying keywords, you are much more likely to generate more than $12 per year per page. If you focus on the right keywords, you could make as much as $100 per page per year or more!
Do the math with that number, and you’ll see that adding and linking one page ever 3 days will earn you an extra $12,200 per year. Writing one page per day will earn you an extra $36,500 per year!
And keep in mind that every year you will add additional content, which means that your earnings will grow and grow as time goes on.
The truth is, once you start creating a lot of quality content and getting just a few links to each page, the initial traffic you get will start to spread the word about your site. Next thing you know your site is getting hundreds of links from all over the place, and you didn’t have to ask for them!
Traffic will start to build, your search engine rankings will improve, and in time you will be earning sums of money that you didn’t dream of before-all because you took a few hours a week to devote to creating quality content and getting a few links.
So adopt a long-term AdSense vision, and in time you will reap the rewards. Jonathan Leger is a well known AdSense, Marketing and SEO professional who posts regularly to his AdSense Articles blog.

Content is NOT King
Content is King. How many times have you heard that? Do you believe it? I used to. But then I stopped to think how ridiculous that statement really is. Content is not King. Something far more valuable is King.
Well, not really King. What you want is more democratic in nature. You want visitors. After all, if you have ten million fantastic articles of top-notch unbeatable quality but have no visitors, what do you have really?
Don’t get me wrong, as an AdSense publisher you want to be constantly creating quality content and adding it to your site. But you’re creating the content for the sake of the visitors, not the other way around.
Once you’ve created a quality article and posted it to your site, it’s time to market that article. Submit it to the major article directories (articlecity.com, ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com). Get links directly to the article from other sites. Find blogs on the topic and ask them to review your article on their blog. Make sure that article gets seen! Doing this will also help rank your article in the search engines.
It’s a lot more beneficial to go out and market an article (and earn more money because of it) than it is to continually write new content that nobody is seeing because you never market it. Plus it’s a great motivator when you see your best articles getting a lot of traffic and earning you money.
One great article can bring in hundreds or thousands of visitors, many of whom will browse your site looking for other great content. Be sure you take advantage of that by getting those visitors on an email list. Offer them some free gifts if they are willing to opt-in and be notified when you post new content. You want to keep those visitors coming back and earning you more money.
AdSense is considered by many a throw-away-traffic business: webmasters try to get a visitor to their page once in the hopes that they will click an ad, but they completely ignore the fact that if you give the visitor incentives to come back again you can earn money from two, three, five, twenty clicks or more from the same visitor over time!
No, content is not King. Your visitors are the only royalty. So make sure you get a lot of them, treat them right and give them plenty of reasons to stick around. Jonathan Leger is a well known AdSense, Marketing and SEO professional who posts regularly to his Google AdSense blog.

Three reasons why AdSense doesn’t work well on forums.
If you had big dreams of making a mint with AdSense on your very popular forum, you were probably weeping after looking at the actual bottom line once you did so.
The fact is, AdSense doesn’t work so well on forums. In fact, none of the AdSense Case Studies are about forums.
Why do forums do so badly? There are 3 main reasons.
Visitors in the Wrong Frame of Mind
If someone is doing research for a particular product or service, and they land on your article regarding that product or service, they are likely buy minded. They are actually looking to buy.
With forums, however, most people are interaction minded. They’re not looking to buy something. Rather, they are looking to discuss something.
Those two frames of mind are very different. In the first case the visitor may click on an AdSense ad because they are shopping around and want to explore the options. In the second case the visitor isn’t paying attention to anything on the page but what people are saying. They might follow a recommended product link posted by a user, but they are far less likely to click on an AdSense ad.
Repeat Visitors Make For Low CTR
Another reason why CTR on forums is low is because most of the visitors to a forum have been there dozens of times before. They’ve either already seen and visited the ads they were interested in, or they’re so used to seeing them that they start to ignore them (read: “ad blindness”).
Besides, you may show 500,000 page views on a forum for the month, but if the average repeat visitor views 10 pages a day reading threads, then your actually number of visitors is far lower. So your stats themselves may be deceiving.
Ad-Targeting is Tough on Forums
Finally, it’s tough to target ads on forums, because discussions tend to wander around and around, touching on this and that as the main topic is discussed. Any human could tell you the basic topic of a discussion like that, but it’s a lot harder for computers to figure out—even if it is Google’s computers.
So you often get mis-targeted ads on forums, and that, too, brings down your click-through rate.
What Can Be Done?
Google offers a number of forum optimization techniques for AdSense on their adsense blog. They will help, but don’t expect miracles.
Also, AdSense guru Joel Comm’s AdSense Secrets ebook has an outstanding chapter on how to make AdSense work with forums and Internet communities. If you haven’t read his ebook yet, I recommend you do so.
Here’s another method you may want to try. Remember that your forum visitors are usually very interested in the subject matter—interested enough to go through the registration process for your forum and discuss it!
What you can do is leverage those visitors by adding a place to your site for articles and product reviews related to the forum subject. When you post a new article or review, let the forum members know about it: post a thread requesting feedback on the article, or better yet, email your member list requesting that they read and review the article.
This accomplishes two things:
1) It reminds people who haven’t been to your forum in a while that it exists (see this related post about email list building). It’s easy to register for a forum and forget about it. But a friendly request for an article review can reactivate some inactive members, which creates more content on your forum when they post and can generate more revenue from clicks.
2) It gets your members out of “interaction” mode by pulling them away from a discussion and into an article, which increases the likelihood that they will click on the related ads.
Summing it all Up
There’s no reasons why forums can’t be profitable with AdSense, though their click-through rates almost never achieve the double-digits. Most forum owners would be happy to have a low single-digit CTR. But following the techniques above can help you improve that bottom line and find new ways of leveraging your user-base.
Remember, too, that all of the forum content is created for you for free by your members, so it’s really all free money anyway. Jonathan Leger is a well known AdSense and Marketing guru, and he wants to give you $371 in free gifts for visiting his Google AdSense blog.

How Google Matches Up Adwords Advertisers With Websites Displaying Adsense
Introduction to Adwords and Adsense
Google Adwords and Adsense are two sides of the same coin. They work hand in hand to deliver targeted ads to prospective customers and create revenue for advertisers, website owners, and of course – Google.
Adwords is a targeted ad system offered by Google to advertisers. Advertisers submit a list of keywords or phrases for their ads, which triggers them to be shown on a website or in Googles search engine results pages (SERPs). Advertisers pay Google for each click the ads generate.
Adsense, on the other hand, is an ad serving program that allows website owners to unobtrusively display relevant text, image and, more recently, video advertisements on their sites. It is also a way for website owners to add Google search in their websites and to earn money by displaying ads on the search results pages. The ads posted on each site are administered by Google and creates revenue for the website owner. Although website owners need not pay to join the program they still get paid for each click received by the ads shown on their site or for the every thousand times a specific ad appears on the website. This is why AdSense is called a pay-per-click and pay-per-impression program.
Keyword Targeting and Site-Targeted Advertising
As mentioned earlier, Adwords and Adsense are two sides of the same coin. For both programs to work they need the other. Adsense affiliates need the data provided by Adwords advertisers to be able to display relevant ads in their websites. But how does Google know which ads are relevant? How does Google match the ads to the websites?
In their Adsense FAQ, Google answered the question. According to Google they use Google search and page-ranking technologies to deliver the ads to the websites. Google matches advertisers and websites using two different techniques – keyword targeting and site-targeted advertising. The choice as to which technique will be used in the matching process is up to the advertiser.
Keyword Targeting
Keyword targeting uses keywords or key phrases to match the ads to websites. Google compares the keywords to the content in a website and decides whether the ads will be relevant the sites visitors. However, Google matches the ads to the websites not only using the simple keyword matching described above but also using a complicated algorithm that factors in keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web. What that algorithm is, of course Google will not tell.
Site-targeted Advertising
Site-targeted advertising is an option Google offers to its advertisers. In site-targeted advertising advertisers are allowed to pick the sites that they want their ads to appear in. This site-targeted advertising option is beneficial for advertisers who know their target audience and the sites they regularly visit. This option does not use the complicated algorithm used in keyword matching. Instead it simply matches the ads to the websites as requested by the advertisers in a straightforward manner. This option is just as effective as the keyword matching option if the advertiser was able to choose the best sites for them to appear. Best being sites whose majority of visitors belongs to the advertisers target audience.
The Need for More Websites as Advertising Hosts
Adsense and other targeted advertising systems have proven to be very effective and are so popular nowadays that there is a need for more available advertising spots in websites accommodate the number of Adwords advertisers. There are many websites out there willing to profit from ads but since Google is after quality and relevance, not just any site will. There is a need for good web pages to serve as advertising host. A good web page means that the web page has rich content and also has a lot of traffic or visitors. Even if a website has good content but generates little traffic it would not be a good advertising host since the ads will be seen only by a few. A website with lots of traffic but crappy or questionable content is also not to Googles taste since they have standards to maintain to ensure quality. Quality websites like that which is still not Adsense affiliates are getting increasingly hard to find. Because of this, Google came up with a new method that will aid in the discovery of such sites. The new method will then be used by Google to help them present new quality sites to their Adword advertisers who want the option of site-targeted advertising.
Googles New Method
Last May 4, 2006 a new patent filed by Google entitled Determining prospective advertising hosts using data such as crawled documents and document access statistics (US Patent Application 20060095322) was published. The patent listed Timothy Matthew Dierks as inventor. The patent describes the new method that Google will use, or most probably is using already, to help discover new websites and web pages that can serve as advertising hosts for their Adwords ads. The method will be used for three basic purposes as summarized by William Slawski on his article Google on Improving Adsense/Adwords. The three basic uses are:
1. Accepting websites as advertising sites/hosts
2. Scoring the web pages in terms of expected page views and ad revenue per page view
3. Sorting the documents based on their scores
After sorting the documents based on their scores the viable web pages will then be presented to advertisers for their consideration. Websites and/or pages chosen by the advertisers will then be used as their ads host.
Some of the information that will be presented by Google about the web pages to help advertisers make their choice are:
1. Features of the web page
2. Content on the web page
3. Information about the web page (i.e. host)
4. Importance or quality of a web page
5. Characteristics of the web pages visitors
6. Absolute position of the ad in the web page and its position relative to the other ads on the page
7. Absolute size of the ad and its size relative to the other ads
8. The ads color
9. The number of other ads that will be running on the page
10. The types of other ads that will run on the page
11. Time of the day, week, and year the ad will be served…and more.

How To Incorporate Adsense Into Your Affiliate Marketing
A lot of people are lured by affiliate marketing because it can be financially rewarding, even if you just stay at home. Affiliate marketing programs are the best alternatives to those who are sick and tired of their arduous daily work just to climb up the venerated corporate ladder. You don’t need products to sell, you just have to market them on your own web site and you don’t have to worry about processing the customers’ payments and the shipment of the products. If you are already into affiliate marketing, you probably were thinking about these benefits, too, before deciding to join an affiliate program.
Of course you want to earn a huge commission. Who wouldn’t? Keep in mind, however, that affiliate marketing cannot guarantee you instant success if you don’t work on it. There are a lot of ways of maximizing your income. The Internet is a huge library of information, use it to learn of other opportunities and ways to increase your income. You can partner with several merchandisers and promote different products on your website; thereby, increasing your chance to earn a commission.
The easiest way for you to rev up your revenue potential is by incorporating Google AdSense into your marketing campaigns. What is Google AdSense? What are its advantages? How can it boost my revenues? These are some of the questions you might want to ask. Let’s try to probe into Google AdSense, so you would know how it could help you in your affiliate marketing program.
Merchants place their ads in Google, which is one of the most popular search engines or tools for locating various resources in the World Wide Web. Now the Google AdSense program allows you to display these ads in you website and when your visitors click through them, you earn. The advertiser, which is the merchant pays Google for every click-through made by the customer and you as a partner of Google, gets a share from that payment.
What’s great about the Google AdSense is that the ads are relevant to the content of your web page. Most likely, visitors of your web site are interested on the theme of your site and specifically, on the content of your web page. So, seeing ads related to their interest would definitely drive them to click through the link or the ad. Using state-of-the-art technology, Google scans your web site and matches the content of your pages to their large database of advertisers; this way, Google is able to find ads that are targeted by the users of your site. In addition, Google changes the ads in your site as you change the content of your pages, so you can always expect the ads to be relevant to your site.
Having Google ads in your website is also a way of convincing your users to return to your site. Repeat customers multiply your income without having to exert extra effort to convince them again to click through your links. And your potential to earn doesn’t depend on them alone. Since you already have their confidence, they can be your endorsers as well. They could refer your site to family and friends who probably share the same interests with them.
Advertisers in the Google AdSense program range from large international brands to small-time domestic and local businesses, so the targeted market for the ads can range as well. This adds variety to your site; thereby, attracting different kinds of users. As you attract more users, you increase your earning potential as well. If you are targeting a specific nationality for your site users, don’t worry because AdSense can be used in different languages.
In order to boost your revenues through Google AdSense, you must pay attention to making web pages of high value topics. Make contents related to high-paying ads, so you can earn more. Some ads pay only a few cents while some ads pay you dollars just for a single click. You would need to do a little research on this so you can come up with a more relevant content.
